Whether you are heading into the Kent countryside, visiting family or beginning a longer trip further afield, having your own wheels makes a real difference. Car and van hire from Enterprise in Tunbridge Wells gives you the freedom to get moving and set off on your own terms.
Royal Tunbridge Wells sits on the northern edge of the High Weald in west Kent, roughly 50 kilometres southeast of London. It grew around a natural spring discovered in the early 1600s and became a fashionable spa retreat. The town still carries much of that heritage. The Pantiles, a colonnaded Georgian walkway lined with independent shops and cafes, remains its best-known feature. Calverley Grounds and Dunorlan Park offer green space within walking distance, while the wider borough stretches out through orchards and hop gardens.
A hire car is one of the easiest ways to make the most of this part of Kent. Families visiting for the weekend can drive out to nearby heritage sites without planning around limited timetables. An automatic car works well on the area's narrow, winding lanes. Couples or solo travellers heading to the coast can reach Hastings or Eastbourne within an hour.
A van is a practical choice if you are moving belongings to or from the area, or carrying supplies for a project. Tunbridge Wells serves a wide stretch of smaller towns and villages. A small van or Luton van makes light work of deliveries across uneven rural roads. Groups travelling together may also find a 7-seater people carrier more comfortable and cost effective than taking separate cars.
Scotney Castle is a National Trust property set in a wooded valley just south of the town. The ruins of a medieval moated manor sit on a small island, surrounded by sloping gardens planted with rhododendrons and azaleas. It is a peaceful spot for a slow afternoon walk.
Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, lies to the northwest through quiet Kent lanes. Visitors can tour the castle's furnished rooms, explore the extensive gardens and walk around the lake. It is well suited to families and anyone with an interest in Tudor history.
Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest, further south, is home to one of the world's most complete collections of conifers. The site covers over 300 acres and offers walking and cycling trails through dense woodland. There is also a Go Ape treetop course and an adventure playground for younger visitors. It works well as a full day out.
The High Weald stretches across Kent, East Sussex and Surrey, and much of it is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is a landscape of wooded ridges, small farms and single-track lanes.

Customers collecting a vehicle from the UK mainland and intending to drive in the Republic of Ireland or mainland Europe must purchase European Travel Coverage. Please note that customers who do not hold a UK driving licence may be subject to additional checks and qualifications prior to hire. European Travel Coverage provides customers with our written consent (VE103B form) to drive the vehicle in the countries stated below and to access 24/7 international breakdown cover through the AA.
In all cases, customers must inform the hire branch of their intention to leave the UK mainland with the vehicle and will require our authorisation. Customers are required to inform the hire branch with no less than 72 hours' notice prior to collecting the vehicle to arrange their European Travel Coverage.
European Travel Coverage is only available to customers paying with a credit card and the vehicle must only be used in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and the UK. This includes the destination and any countries customers might travel through. Premium, Luxury and Executive vehicles are excluded from the European Travel Coverage product and are therefore not allowed to leave the country.
The charge for European Travel Coverage is 325.00 per hire for all cross-border travels. Customers hiring from Northern Ireland wishing to cross the border into the Republic of Ireland will only be charged 27.00
Please note that we are unable to provide any additional equipment or permits and certificates that may be compulsory for driving abroad (e.g. breathalysers, warning triangles, first aid kits etc.), and this responsibility rests on the driver. Customers are required to be aware of any requirements of the destination and any countries or regions customers might travel through.
Advice on driving in other European countries following the United Kingdom leaving the European Union may be found at www.gov.uk/driving-abroad
Damage Waiver (DW) reduces the liability of the renter in the event of damage to or theft of the vehicle. If DW is not included in the reservation, the renter has full liability for the vehicle. DW is available for purchase.
If included in the reservation, the excess amount for each incident of damage is 1,750 GBP for all cars and SUVs in the categories Mini, Economy, Compact, Intermediate and Standard. All other vehicles have an excess of 2,250 GBP. The excess will be charged every time a vehicle is damaged, lost or stolen.
Before purchasing DW, it is advisable to determine if the renter's personal coverage is adequate to cover damage, theft, loss of revenue, administration fees, diminishment of value and any towing, storage or impound fees. If DW is declined, the renter will be required to pay these charges and seek compensation through their carrier of personal coverage. DW is not insurance.
Renters wishing to discuss or dispute any matters concerning damage to the rental vehicle may contact our damage recovery department. Please email damageclaim@em.com or call 00 44 (0) 345 604 2881.
All hires where the vehicle is not returned to the same location as it is collected from (whether scheduled or unscheduled) will be subject to a one-way fee. The one-way fee varies based on car category, location and pick-up date. If you have reserved a one-way hire, this fee is listed in the reservation details and/or the summary. If unscheduled, this fee will be listed on your hire invoice.
Excess Protection (EP) is an optional coverage available either:
(i) Where you have also purchased DW from us, in which case, your responsibility for any loss caused by damage to, theft or loss of the Vehicle is further reduced to the excess amount indicated on the Summary, or
(ii) If you purchase EP, but not DW, you remain liable for all losses above the amount indicated on the Summary up to the full market value of the Vehicle, every time the Vehicle is damaged or stolen or lost.
For all cars and SUVs in the categories Mini, Economy, Compact, Intermediate and Standard, the excess can be reduced to 100 GBP. For all other vehicles, the excess can be reduced to 250 GBP. The excess will be charged every time a vehicle is damaged, lost or stolen.
Before purchasing EP, it is advisable to determine if the renter's personal coverage is adequate to cover damage, theft, loss of revenue, administration fees, diminishment of value, and any towing, storage or impound fees. If EP is declined, the renter will be required to pay these charges up to the Damage Waiver excess amount and seek compensation through their carrier of personal coverage. EP is not insurance.
If the renter does not choose to purchase an optional fuel product at the start of the rental period and does not return the vehicle with the same level of fuel as at the start of the rental period (as indicated on the Rental Agreement) the renter will be required to pay a refueling service fee calculated as the difference between the fuel level recorded on the Rental Agreement and that recorded upon the return of the vehicle multiplied by the fuel price displayed on your Rental Agreement, plus a refueling charge of up to 15 GBP. Unused or excess fuel will not be refunded.
Where the vehicle is an electric vehicle and is returned with less charge than was provided at the start of the Rental Period (such level as indicated on the Rental Agreement Summary), a re-charging fee calculated as the kWhs needed to charge the vehicle to make up the difference between the charge level recorded on the Rental Agreement Summary and that recorded upon the return of the Vehicle multiplied by the kWh price displayed on the Rental Agreement Summary plus, an additional charge as indicated on the Rental Agreement Summary. No unused or excess charge will be refunded.
All major debit and credit cards, issued by either Visa, Mastercard or American Express, are accepted. All cards presented must be in the renter's name. A security deposit plus the estimated cost of the hire will be taken at the time of hire. Cash, cheques, prepaid cards, Diners Club and Discover Card are not accepted. For all cars and SUVs in the categories Mini, Economy, Compact, Intermediate, Standard, Small People Carriers and Vans, a deposit of 200.00 GBP is required. These vehicles may be hired with a debit or credit card. A valid credit card is required to hire Large People Carriers, Compact Elite, Full Size SUVs, Premium, Luxury and Executive vehicles. A £500.00 deposit applies to Large People Carriers, Compact Elite, Full Size SUVs and Premium vehicles, while Luxury and Executive vehicles require a £1,000.00 deposit. Airports only: Debit cards are accepted at the time of hire with a round-trip plane ticket or flight itinerary that shows the renter's name and discloses the return date. Airport locations only serve deplaning customers. If using a payment source registered outside of the United Kingdom, this location cannot be responsible for any fluctuations in the currency exchanges while the deposit is being held.
Roadside Assistance Protection (RAP) is an optional product to waive the renter's responsibility for the following: tyre (including the rim) repair or replacement (unless part of a larger repair to the vehicle), replacement key costs, glass repair or glass replacement costs (except when part of a larger repair), and all recovery and call-out charges imposed by our chosen roadside assistance providers as a result of a fault occurring to the vehicle due to the renter's error. RAP is not an insurance product; some damages will be excluded and the renter's conduct during the hire period may affect the protection available under RAP (see the Exclusions section).
Before purchasing RAP, you may wish to check if your personal coverage is adequate. If you decline RAP, you will be required to pay any applicable charges and, if possible, seek compensation from your carrier.
All drivers must present a fully valid and unexpired driving licence (digital licences are not accepted).
Unless the driving licence has been issued by the UK or a Member State of the European Union (in standard format):
•If the licence is in a language other than that of the country in which you are hiring, and the alphabet used is an extended Latin-based alphabet, an International Driving Permit is recommended, but not required, for translation purposes, in addition to the home country licence.
•If the home country licence is in a language other than that of the country in which you are hiring, and the alphabet used is not an extended Latin-based alphabet (i.e. the alphabet used is Cyrillic, Japanese, Arabic etc.), an International Driving Permit is required.
•If an International Driving Permit is required and cannot be obtained in the home country, another professional, type-written translation may be substituted. In either case, the home country licence must also be presented.
•Customers may not hire a vehicle solely with the International Driving Permit. The International Driving Permit is an official translation of the individual's home country licence and is not considered a licence, nor is it considered valid identification.
All renters must provide a valid photo ID such as a driving licence, passport or ID card. Visitors to the UK must also provide proof of return travel and accommodation information while in the UK. Please note that we reserve the right to request additional ID or conduct further identification checks if needed, which may include an identity check with an external organisation.
Unless required by law, the owner's financial responsibility shall not extend to any claim made by a passenger while riding in or getting in or out of the vehicle.
