East Sussex is home to the seaside resort of Eastbourne on England’s South Coast. The town grew in stature during the Victorian era when the British first realised the benefits of bracing sea air; unsurprisingly, many of the buildings in the town date back to those times, although the area has been settled for much longer, as the Neolithic site at Willington Down demonstrates. The town has everything you would expect from a holiday location, from crazy golf to a pier, a bandstand and parks, such as Shinewater Park and Hampden Park. It is also close to the geographical features of Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters. Brighton, with its Royal Pavilion, is only a short car journey from Eastbourne (24 miles), or why not visit the exhibition centre and abbey at Battle, near Hastings. There are four council-owned theatres in Eastbourne, and Arndale Centre, which supplements other shopping opportunities. Enterprise Rent-A-Car can be found at Unit 18 Hawthorn Road, two and a half miles outside the town, on the A259. Enterprise offers a pick-up service, although a taxi fare out to their premises won’t break the bank. Local public transport will, for a small fare, take you along Hawthorn Road to collect your vehicle.
