Whether you're travelling for business, visiting the Sussex coast or planning a practical transport task, having access to a vehicle can help make journeys simpler. Enterprise offers car hire and van hire in Brighton and Hove, supporting a range of personal and commercial travel needs.
Brighton and Hove is a city on England's south coast known for its mix of seaside heritage, cultural activity and residential neighbourhoods. The area is predominantly urban, stretching along the coastline while also serving as a gateway to the countryside of East and West Sussex. Its combination of tourism, education, technology and creative industries contributes to a varied local economy.
The city's most recognisable feature is Brighton Palace Pier, while the Royal Pavilion remains a distinctive part of its architectural identity. Beyond these landmarks, Brighton and Hove includes independent shopping areas, public parks and busy seafront spaces that attract residents and visitors throughout the year. Moving away from the coastline, the landscape opens into the South Downs, creating a contrast between densely populated urban areas and open countryside. This setting gives Brighton and Hove a character that differs from many other coastal cities.
Car hire in Brighton and Hove can be particularly useful for travellers looking to spend time beyond the city itself. A vehicle makes it easier to reach destinations across Sussex, including market towns, countryside locations and coastal communities. Car hire in Brighton and Hove also supports journeys to places such as Lewes, Chichester and the South Downs National Park. Enterprise offers vehicles suited to both leisure and business travel.
Van hire in Brighton and Hove is commonly used for property moves, creative projects and commercial transport needs. The city's large residential population and varied business community create regular demand for larger vehicles. Whether carrying equipment, stock or household items, van hire in Brighton and Hove provides a practical solution. Enterprise offers small vans, large vans and Luton vans to meet different requirements.
The South Downs National Park offers extensive walking routes, rolling chalk hills and countryside views across Sussex. Visitors come to enjoy outdoor activities and rural landscapes.
Lewes is a historic county town known for its castle, independent shops and long-established cultural traditions. Its compact centre makes it popular for day visits.
Devil's Dyke is a well-known beauty spot located within the South Downs. Visitors can enjoy walking trails and elevated views across the surrounding countryside.
Sussex combines coastal settlements, historic towns and large areas of protected landscape. Travelling between these different environments is often easiest by road. Brighton and Hove sits at the centre of this network, connecting urban life with some of the South East's most varied scenery.

Customers collecting a vehicle from the UK mainland and intending to drive in the Republic of Ireland or mainland Europe must purchase European Travel Coverage. Please note that customers who do not hold a UK driving licence may be subject to additional checks and qualifications prior to hire. European Travel Coverage provides customers with our written consent (VE103B form) to drive the vehicle in the countries stated below and to access 24/7 international breakdown cover through the AA.
In all cases, customers must inform the hire branch of their intention to leave the UK mainland with the vehicle and will require our authorisation. Customers are required to inform the hire branch with no less than 72 hours' notice prior to collecting the vehicle to arrange their European Travel Coverage.
European Travel Coverage is only available to customers paying with a credit card and the vehicle must only be used in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and the UK. This includes the destination and any countries customers might travel through. Premium, Luxury and Executive vehicles are excluded from the European Travel Coverage product and are therefore not allowed to leave the country.
The charge for European Travel Coverage is 325.00 per hire for all cross-border travels. Customers hiring from Northern Ireland wishing to cross the border into the Republic of Ireland will only be charged 27.00

Damage Waiver (DW) reduces the liability of the renter in the event of damage to or theft of the vehicle. If DW is not included in the reservation, the renter has full liability for the vehicle. DW is available for purchase.
If included in the reservation, the excess amount for each incident of damage is 1,750 GBP for all cars and SUVs in the categories Mini, Economy, Compact, Intermediate and Standard. All other vehicles have an excess of 2,250 GBP. The excess will be charged every time a vehicle is damaged, lost or stolen.
Before purchasing DW, it is advisable to determine if the renter's personal coverage is adequate to cover damage, theft, loss of revenue, administration fees, diminishment of value and any towing, storage or impound fees. If DW is declined, the renter will be required to pay these charges and seek compensation through their carrier of personal coverage. DW is not insurance.
Renters wishing to discuss or dispute any matters concerning damage to the rental vehicle may contact our damage recovery department. Please email damageclaim@em.com or call 00 44 (0) 345 604 2881.
All hires where the vehicle is not returned to the same location as it is collected from (whether scheduled or unscheduled) will be subject to a one-way fee. The one-way fee varies based on car category, location and pick-up date. If you have reserved a one-way hire, this fee is listed in the reservation details and/or the summary. If unscheduled, this fee will be listed on your hire invoice.
Excess Protection (EP) is an optional coverage available either:
(i) Where you have also purchased DW from us, in which case, your responsibility for any loss caused by damage to, theft or loss of the Vehicle is further reduced to the excess amount indicated on the Summary, or
(ii) If you purchase EP, but not DW, you remain liable for all losses above the amount indicated on the Summary up to the full market value of the Vehicle, every time the Vehicle is damaged or stolen or lost.
For all cars and SUVs in the categories Mini, Economy, Compact, Intermediate and Standard, the excess can be reduced to 100 GBP. For all other vehicles, the excess can be reduced to 250 GBP. The excess will be charged every time a vehicle is damaged, lost or stolen.
Before purchasing EP, it is advisable to determine if the renter's personal coverage is adequate to cover damage, theft, loss of revenue, administration fees, diminishment of value, and any towing, storage or impound fees. If EP is declined, the renter will be required to pay these charges up to the Damage Waiver excess amount and seek compensation through their carrier of personal coverage. EP is not insurance.

Unused or excess fuel will not be refunded.
Where the vehicle is an electric vehicle and is returned with less charge than was provided at the start of the Rental Period (such level as indicated on the Rental Agreement Summary), a re-charging fee calculated as the kWhs needed to charge the vehicle to make up the difference between the charge level recorded on the Rental Agreement Summary and that recorded upon the return of the Vehicle multiplied by the kWh price displayed on the Rental Agreement Summary plus, an additional charge as indicated on the Rental Agreement Summary. No unused or excess charge will be refunded.

Unless the driving licence has been issued by the UK or a Member State of the European Union (in standard format):
•If the licence is in a language other than that of the country in which you are hiring, and the alphabet used is an extended Latin-based alphabet, an International Driving Permit is recommended, but not required, for translation purposes, in addition to the home country licence.
•If the home country licence is in a language other than that of the country in which you are hiring, and the alphabet used is not an extended Latin-based alphabet (i.e. the alphabet used is Cyrillic, Japanese, Arabic etc.), an International Driving Permit is required.
•If an International Driving Permit is required and cannot be obtained in the home country, another professional, type-written translation may be substituted. In either case, the home country licence must also be presented.
•Customers may not hire a vehicle solely with the International Driving Permit. The International Driving Permit is an official translation of the individual's home country licence and is not considered a licence, nor is it considered valid identification.
All renters must provide a valid photo ID such as a driving licence, passport or ID card. Visitors to the UK must also provide proof of return travel and accommodation information while in the UK. Please note that we reserve the right to request additional ID or conduct further identification checks if needed, which may include an identity check with an external organisation.
