Inverness Airport (INV) is the main arrival point for the Scottish Highlands, welcoming visitors on business trips, family holidays and touring routes across the north of Scotland. Car hire from Enterprise at Inverness Airport gives you the flexibility to plan your own route from the moment you arrive.
Inverness sits where the River Ness flows into the Moray Firth on Scotland's east coast. Often called the capital of the Highlands, it is the UK's northernmost city and the main hub for services and culture across northern Scotland. Around 48,000 people live here, making it small enough to feel welcoming but large enough to have everything a traveller might need. The city centre is walkable, with Inverness Castle set on a hill above the river. Beyond the outskirts, the landscape opens into farmland, coastline and open moorland. The wider Highlands begin just a few minutes' drive away.
A hire car makes a real difference at this airport. Public transport in the Highlands is limited, with buses running infrequently and trains only serving a handful of towns. Many of the region's most visited places sit along single-track roads or in remote glens with no bus service at all.
With a car, you can head south towards Aviemore and the Cairngorms, west towards the coast, or north along quieter roads towards Dornoch. Nairn, a small seaside town popular with families, is a short drive east. The flexibility a car provides matters here more than in most parts of the UK.
Enterprise offers a range of vehicles to suit different trips. You might choose an automatic car for unfamiliar roads, an SUV for Highland terrain, or a 7-seater people carrier for a family holiday. A car rental from Inverness Airport means you are ready to go from the start.
Loch Ness is the most famous landmark in the region and one of the main reasons visitors come to the Highlands. The loch stretches for over 37 kilometres and holds more freshwater than all the lakes in England and Wales combined. Urquhart Castle sits on its northern shore, with ruins dating back to the 13th century and wide views across the water. It is one of the most photographed castles in Scotland.
Culloden Battlefield, east of Inverness, is where the last pitched battle on British soil took place in 1746. The visitor centre tells the story of the Jacobite rising through interactive displays, and the open moorland of the battlefield can be walked year-round.
Cawdor Castle, near the village of Cawdor, dates from the 15th century and is known for its connection to Shakespeare's Macbeth. It remains a lived-in family home, with walled gardens, nature trails and seasonal displays open to visitors throughout the warmer months.
The Highlands reward those willing to take quieter roads and allow extra time. Distances between towns can be long, and weather changes quickly, but the scenery shifts constantly too. From coastline to mountain pass, the variety within a single day's driving from Inverness is hard to match anywhere in the UK.
Additional drivers must meet all renter requirements. Additional drivers can be added to the rental agreement if they visit any hire location and present their driving licence. A daily surcharge of 19.11 GBP will apply at airport/premium locations and 15.60 GBP at all other locations.
IF A CUSTOMER CHOOSES TO RETURN A CAR OUTSIDE OF THE OFFICE OPERATING HOURS, THEY WILL NEED TO RETURN TO THE ACTUAL CAR RENTAL LOCATION AND POST THE KEYS THROUGH THE DROP BOX LOCATED ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE FRONT DOOR OF THE BUILDING. THERE IS A FOOTPATH FROM THERE THAT TAKES YOU BACK THROUGH TO THE TERMINAL BUILDING. VEHICLES WILL BE CHECKED IN DURING OPERATING OFFICE HOURS.

Customers collecting a vehicle from the UK mainland and intending to drive in the Republic of Ireland or mainland Europe must purchase European Travel Coverage. Please note that customers who do not hold a UK driving licence may be subject to additional checks and qualifications prior to hire. European Travel Coverage provides customers with our written consent (VE103B form) to drive the vehicle in the countries stated below and to access 24/7 international breakdown cover through the AA.
In all cases, customers must inform the hire branch of their intention to leave the UK mainland with the vehicle and will require our authorisation. Customers are required to inform the hire branch with no less than 72 hours' notice prior to collecting the vehicle to arrange their European Travel Coverage.
European Travel Coverage is only available to customers paying with a credit card and the vehicle must only be used in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and the UK. This includes the destination and any countries customers might travel through. Premium, Luxury and Executive vehicles are excluded from the European Travel Coverage product and are therefore not allowed to leave the country.
The charge for European Travel Coverage is 325.00 per hire for all cross-border travels. Customers hiring from Northern Ireland wishing to cross the border into the Republic of Ireland will only be charged 27.00

Customers are required to be aware of any requirements of the destination and any countries or regions customers might travel through.
Advice on driving in other European countries following the United Kingdom leaving the European Union may be found at www.gov.uk/driving-abroad
Damage Waiver (DW) reduces the liability of the renter in the event of damage to or theft of the vehicle. If DW is not included in the reservation, the renter has full liability for the vehicle. DW is available for purchase.
If included in the reservation, the excess amount for each incident of damage is 1,750 GBP for all cars and SUVs in the categories Mini, Economy, Compact, Intermediate and Standard. All other vehicles have an excess of 2,250 GBP. The excess will be charged every time a vehicle is damaged, lost or stolen.
Before purchasing DW, it is advisable to determine if the renter's personal coverage is adequate to cover damage, theft, loss of revenue, administration fees, diminishment of value and any towing, storage or impound fees. If DW is declined, the renter will be required to pay these charges and seek compensation through their carrier of personal coverage. DW is not insurance.
Renters wishing to discuss or dispute any matters concerning damage to the rental vehicle may contact our damage recovery department. Please email damageclaim@em.com or call 00 44 (0) 345 604 2881.
All hires where the vehicle is not returned to the same location as it is collected from (whether scheduled or unscheduled) will be subject to a one-way fee. The one-way fee varies based on car category, location and pick-up date. If you have reserved a one-way hire, this fee is listed in the reservation details and/or the summary. If unscheduled, this fee will be listed on your hire invoice.
Excess Protection (EP) is an optional coverage available either:
(i) Where you have also purchased DW from us, in which case, your responsibility for any loss caused by damage to, theft or loss of the Vehicle is further reduced to the excess amount indicated on the Summary, or
(ii) If you purchase EP, but not DW, you remain liable for all losses above the amount indicated on the Summary up to the full market value of the Vehicle, every time the Vehicle is damaged or stolen or lost.
For all cars and SUVs in the categories Mini, Economy, Compact, Intermediate and Standard, the excess can be reduced to 100 GBP. For all other vehicles, the excess can be reduced to 250 GBP. The excess will be charged every time a vehicle is damaged, lost or stolen.
Before purchasing EP, it is advisable to determine if the renter's personal coverage is adequate to cover damage, theft, loss of revenue, administration fees, diminishment of value, and any towing, storage or impound fees. If EP is declined, the renter will be required to pay these charges up to the Damage Waiver excess amount and seek compensation through their carrier of personal coverage. EP is not insurance.
If the renter does not choose to purchase an optional fuel product at the start of the rental period and does not return the vehicle with the same level of fuel as at the start of the rental period (as indicated on the Rental Agreement) the renter will be required to pay a refueling service fee calculated as the difference between the fuel level recorded on the Rental Agreement and that recorded upon the return of the vehicle multiplied by the fuel price displayed on your Rental Agreement, plus a refueling charge of up to 15 GBP. Unused or excess fuel will not be refunded.
Where the vehicle is an electric vehicle and is returned with less charge than was provided at the start of the Rental Period (such level as indicated on the Rental Agreement Summary), a re-charging fee calculated as the kWhs needed to charge the vehicle to make up the difference between the charge level recorded on the Rental Agreement Summary and that recorded upon the return of the Vehicle multiplied by the kWh price displayed on the Rental Agreement Summary plus, an additional charge as indicated on the Rental Agreement Summary. No unused or excess charge will be refunded.
All major debit and credit cards (issued by either Visa, Mastercard or American Express) are accepted. All cards presented must be in the renter’s name. A security deposit plus the estimated cost of the rental will be taken at the time of rental. Cash, cheques, prepaid cards, Diners Club and Discover Card are not accepted.
Airports Only - Debit cards are accepted at the time of rental with a round trip plane ticket or flight itinerary that shows the renter's name and discloses the return date. Debit cards are not accepted from local customers. Local renters must present a valid credit card in the renter's name. If using a payment source registered outside of the United Kingdom, this location cannot be responsible for any fluctuations in the currency exchanges while the deposit is being held.
For cars and SUVs of the categories Mini, Economy, Compact, Standard, Small People Carriers and Vans a deposit of £200 is required. These vehicles may be rented with a debit or credit card. Large People Carriers, Compact Elite, large SUVs and all Premium vehicles require a deposit of £500. For Luxury and Executive vehicles, a deposit of £1000 applies. A credit card is mandatory to rent these vehicles.
Roadside Assistance Protection (RAP) is an optional product to waive the renter's responsibility for the following: tyre (including the rim) repair or replacement (unless part of a larger repair to the vehicle), replacement key costs, glass repair or glass replacement costs (except when part of a larger repair), and all recovery and call-out charges imposed by our chosen roadside assistance providers as a result of a fault occurring to the vehicle due to the renter's error. RAP is not an insurance product; some damages will be excluded and the renter's conduct during the hire period may affect the protection available under RAP (see the Exclusions section).
Before purchasing RAP, you may wish to check if your personal coverage is adequate. If you decline RAP, you will be required to pay any applicable charges and, if possible, seek compensation from your carrier.
All drivers must present a fully valid and unexpired driving licence (digital licences are not accepted).
Unless the driving licence has been issued by the UK or a Member State of the European Union (in standard format):
•If the licence is in a language other than that of the country in which you are hiring, and the alphabet used is an extended Latin-based alphabet, an International Driving Permit is recommended, but not required, for translation purposes, in addition to the home country licence.
•If the home country licence is in a language other than that of the country in which you are hiring, and the alphabet used is not an extended Latin-based alphabet (i.e. the alphabet used is Cyrillic, Japanese, Arabic etc.), an International Driving Permit is required.
•If an International Driving Permit is required and cannot be obtained in the home country, another professional, type-written translation may be substituted. In either case, the home country licence must also be presented.
•Customers may not hire a vehicle solely with the International Driving Permit. The International Driving Permit is an official translation of the individual's home country licence and is not considered a licence, nor is it considered valid identification.
All renters must provide a valid photo ID such as a driving licence, passport or ID card. Visitors to the UK must also provide proof of return travel and accommodation information while in the UK. Please note that we reserve the right to request additional ID or conduct further identification checks if needed, which may include an identity check with an external organisation.
Unless required by law, the owner's financial responsibility shall not extend to any claim made by a passenger while riding in or getting in or out of the vehicle. The owner's financial responsibility shall not extend to liability imposed or assumed by anyone under any worker's compensation act, plan or contract.
