Whether you're visiting the Dorset coast, travelling for work or organising a practical project, having access to a vehicle can make the next stage of your journey easier. Enterprise offers car hire and van hire in Christchurch for a range of personal and business travel needs.
Christchurch is a coastal town on the eastern edge of Dorset, situated between Bournemouth and the New Forest. While smaller than some of its neighbouring urban centres, it serves as an important residential and commercial community with strong links to the surrounding coastline and countryside. The town is largely urban, although significant natural landscapes lie nearby.
The historic centre is shaped by Christchurch Priory, which has been a prominent feature of the town for centuries. The meeting point of the Rivers Avon and Stour also contributes to the area's identity, creating waterside spaces that are closely linked to local life. Independent businesses, traditional high streets and established residential neighbourhoods help define the town's character. Beyond Christchurch itself, the landscape quickly changes to heathland, forest and coastline. This gives the area a balance of urban convenience and access to some of southern England's most distinctive natural settings.
Car hire in Christchurch can be useful for travellers looking to spend time across Dorset and the neighbouring counties. A vehicle allows easy access to coastal destinations, market towns and countryside areas that are spread across the wider region. Car hire in Christchurch also supports onward journeys to places such as Bournemouth, Lyndhurst and Poole. Enterprise offers a variety of vehicles suited to both short local trips and longer journeys.
Van hire in Christchurch supports the needs of residents, tradespeople and businesses operating across the south coast. Whether moving household items, transporting equipment or managing commercial deliveries, additional carrying capacity can make practical tasks easier to complete. Enterprise offers van hire in Christchurch with options ranging from small vans to large vans and Luton vans.
Hengistbury Head is a coastal nature reserve known for its walking routes, wildlife and views across the surrounding coastline. Visitors can explore a mix of heathland, beach and historic archaeological sites.
The New Forest National Park offers woodland, heathland and traditional villages. It is a popular destination for walking, cycling and exploring one of southern England's most distinctive landscapes.
Highcliffe Castle overlooks the coastline and features historic interiors, gardens and exhibitions. The site attracts visitors interested in local history and architecture.
The wider area around Christchurch is defined by its varied geography. Coastline, forest, river landscapes and established towns all sit within a relatively compact region. Having access to a vehicle can make it easier to move between these different environments and make the most of time in the area.

Customers collecting a vehicle from the UK mainland and intending to drive in the Republic of Ireland or mainland Europe must purchase European Travel Coverage. Please note that customers who do not hold a UK driving licence may be subject to additional checks and qualifications prior to hire. European Travel Coverage provides customers with our written consent (VE103B form) to drive the vehicle in the countries stated below and to access 24/7 international breakdown cover through the AA.
In all cases, customers must inform the hire branch of their intention to leave the UK mainland with the vehicle and will require our authorisation. Customers are required to inform the hire branch with no less than 72 hours' notice prior to collecting the vehicle to arrange their European Travel Coverage.
European Travel Coverage is only available to customers paying with a credit card and the vehicle must only be used in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and the UK. This includes the destination and any countries customers might travel through. Premium, Luxury and Executive vehicles are excluded from the European Travel Coverage product and are therefore not allowed to leave the country.
The charge for European Travel Coverage is 325.00 per hire for all cross-border travels. Customers hiring from Northern Ireland wishing to cross the border into the Republic of Ireland will only be charged 27.00

Damage Waiver (DW) reduces the liability of the renter in the event of damage to or theft of the vehicle. If DW is not included in the reservation, the renter has full liability for the vehicle. DW is available for purchase.
If included in the reservation, the excess amount for each incident of damage is 1,750 GBP for all cars and SUVs in the categories Mini, Economy, Compact, Intermediate and Standard. All other vehicles have an excess of 2,250 GBP. The excess will be charged every time a vehicle is damaged, lost or stolen.
Before purchasing DW, it is advisable to determine if the renter's personal coverage is adequate to cover damage, theft, loss of revenue, administration fees, diminishment of value and any towing, storage or impound fees. If DW is declined, the renter will be required to pay these charges and seek compensation through their carrier of personal coverage. DW is not insurance.
Renters wishing to discuss or dispute any matters concerning damage to the rental vehicle may contact our damage recovery department. Please email damageclaim@em.com or call 00 44 (0) 345 604 2881.
All hires where the vehicle is not returned to the same location as it is collected from (whether scheduled or unscheduled) will be subject to a one-way fee. The one-way fee varies based on car category, location and pick-up date. If you have reserved a one-way hire, this fee is listed in the reservation details and/or the summary. If unscheduled, this fee will be listed on your hire invoice.
Excess Protection (EP) is an optional coverage available either:
(i) Where you have also purchased DW from us, in which case, your responsibility for any loss caused by damage to, theft or loss of the Vehicle is further reduced to the excess amount indicated on the Summary, or
(ii) If you purchase EP, but not DW, you remain liable for all losses above the amount indicated on the Summary up to the full market value of the Vehicle, every time the Vehicle is damaged or stolen or lost.
For all cars and SUVs in the categories Mini, Economy, Compact, Intermediate and Standard, the excess can be reduced to 100 GBP. For all other vehicles, the excess can be reduced to 250 GBP. The excess will be charged every time a vehicle is damaged, lost or stolen.
Before purchasing EP, it is advisable to determine if the renter's personal coverage is adequate to cover damage, theft, loss of revenue, administration fees, diminishment of value, and any towing, storage or impound fees. If EP is declined, the renter will be required to pay these charges up to the Damage Waiver excess amount and seek compensation through their carrier of personal coverage. EP is not insurance.
If the renter does not choose to purchase an optional fuel product at the start of the rental period and does not return the vehicle with the same level of fuel as at the start of the rental period (as indicated on the Rental Agreement) the renter will be required to pay a refueling service fee calculated as the difference between the fuel level recorded on the Rental Agreement and that recorded upon the return of the vehicle multiplied by the fuel price displayed on your Rental Agreement, plus a refueling charge of up to 15 GBP. Unused or excess fuel will not be refunded.
Where the vehicle is an electric vehicle and is returned with less charge than was provided at the start of the Rental Period (such level as indicated on the Rental Agreement Summary), a re-charging fee calculated as the kWhs needed to charge the vehicle to make up the difference between the charge level recorded on the Rental Agreement Summary and that recorded upon the return of the Vehicle multiplied by the kWh price displayed on the Rental Agreement Summary plus, an additional charge as indicated on the Rental Agreement Summary. No unused or excess charge will be refunded.

Unless the driving licence has been issued by the UK or a Member State of the European Union (in standard format):
•If the licence is in a language other than that of the country in which you are hiring, and the alphabet used is an extended Latin-based alphabet, an International Driving Permit is recommended, but not required, for translation purposes, in addition to the home country licence.
•If the home country licence is in a language other than that of the country in which you are hiring, and the alphabet used is not an extended Latin-based alphabet (i.e. the alphabet used is Cyrillic, Japanese, Arabic etc.), an International Driving Permit is required.
•If an International Driving Permit is required and cannot be obtained in the home country, another professional, type-written translation may be substituted. In either case, the home country licence must also be presented.
•Customers may not hire a vehicle solely with the International Driving Permit. The International Driving Permit is an official translation of the individual's home country licence and is not considered a licence, nor is it considered valid identification.
All renters must provide a valid photo ID such as a driving licence, passport or ID card. Visitors to the UK must also provide proof of return travel and accommodation information while in the UK. Please note that we reserve the right to request additional ID or conduct further identification checks if needed, which may include an identity check with an external organisation.
